Modifying my "chart"

Hmmm....if I were to modify this chart after considering Mitchell & Hansen's suggestions/directives/parameters for studying media, I'd likely start by revisiting the "cultural studies" portions of the chart -- such as the ways that databases as an individual media and as part of the singular media shape our applications and understandings of gender and class and ethnicity concepts -- and especially expanding on them.  I'd also try to apply Mitchell & Hansen statement that we should “exploit the ambiguity of the concept of media…as a third term capable of bridging, or mediating, the binaries.”  Is there any ambiguity in databases?  If so, where?  In the design?  (Kim's comments on my chart also raise questions about whether there is ambiguity in databases' design or in their usage and application.)
